Dominic Sandoval I am a senior at New Mexico Tech majoring in electrical engineering with a dual minor in mathematics and psychology. I would like to be Region III’s Regional Student Representative due to fact that I know I will be able to strengthen the region through my communication, organizational, and networking skills. I understand that every chapter is different and all have great strengths in multiple areas, being RSR I want to open up communication between all of Region III’s chapters. I am not saying that we are not already the best region, if you catch my drift, but if we work together we will gain nothing but forward progress. I am also very punctual about returning phone calls and responding to e-mail, so answering questions will be done in a very timely manner. I am very aware of the responsibility that the RSR position entitles and will make myself readily available to answer any questions and solve any potential problems that may arise. I want to help us grow and thrive as a region. Enrique Arce I am PhD student in Mechanical Engineering at the University of Utah. My research is in High Reynolds number Turbulent Fluid Flow. I have been involved with SHPE for the past three years since I enrolled in Graduate School. Last year, I served as President of the newly revived student chapter here in Utah. For the past three years I have also served as the director of a summer pre-engineering program at West High school in Salt Lake City. I am running for RSR so that the University of Utah's newly revived chapter can continue to grow and become more involved in Regional and National events. Thank you for writing me in!
The 2008 RLDC was hosted by the University of New Mexico in Albuquerque, NM. It was a huge success we had 9 schools in attendance with a total of 39 students. Along with the workshops, UNM coordinated a campus scavenger hunt for a team building event.
Students of the Year
Benito Herrera-UNM & Luis Ortega-University of Colorado Boulder These two students have demonstrated outstanding leadership qualities throughout the year. They are both vital assets to their respective chapters! GREAT JOB GUYS!!!
Chapter of the Year
University of Wyoming, Laramie These students have worked very hard to increase membership by 33%, along with maintaining communication. They were able to make the drive to Albuquerque and have 4 students attend RLDC. I look for only great things from them in the future. KEEP UP THE GOOD WORK!!!
