Region 7 SHPE Regional Science Bowl in Miami
The SHPE Regional Science Bowls engage Hispanic middle school and high school students in an enriching, challenging and competitive environment to motivate and heighten their interest in math and science. The competition is an intense and fun "Jeopardy"-style round-robin session preceding a double-elimination tournament. Teams, composed of four competitors and an alternate, are challenged to answer a range of multiple-choice and short answer questions in math, chemistry, biology, physics, astronomy, earth science and general science.
SOUTH FLORIDA SUB-REGIONAL BBQ
In typical Miami fashion the sun was scorching hot on September 13th, 2009, the hamburgers were sizzling on the grill, and the water in the beach could not be better temperature. Although, the dark clouds were quickly approaching it did not stop SHPE members from having their fun in the sun. The South Florida Sub-Regional BBQ was hosted at Bill Baggs National Park and the grass was set to host SHPE members in an array of activities like volleyball, football, and soccer, not to mention an intense Poker tournament as well. FIU, FAU, and UM athletes dominated the fields and other members played their iPods and turned on the salsa music a midst of the Hispanic culture. New and old members reunited and showed their “Familia” spirit as members conversed and networked. Then before the fun filled afternoon came to a close our RSR had an exciting raffle full of cool prizes like a SONY Mp3 player, gift cards, and an all equipped camera.
